Dr. Emily Sedgwick is the new CEO of University Medical Center New Orleans, parent company LCMC Health announced Wednesday.
Sedgwick, who was the executive chief medical officer of the University of Kentucky HealthCare, replaced interim CEO Terrie Sterling, who led UMC New Orleans since last year. UMC New Orleans, one of the largest academic medical centers in the Pelican State, is part of the six-hospital not-for-profit LCMC Health chain in southern Louisiana.
“Dr. Sedgwick is an accomplished leader in academic and non-academic medical systems with employed and affiliated physicians,” LCMC Health CEO Greg Feirn said in a news release. “Dr. Sedgwick’s 20 years of experience and leadership will help University Medical Center continue to serve as a world-class academic research hospital that trains the next generation of healthcare professionals.”
LCMC Health recorded a $40.5 million operating loss on $2.29 billion of operating revenue in 2021. The health system reported $107.1 million in operating income on $2 billion of operating revenue the prior year. Its employee compensation and benefits and supplies expenses both jumped nearly 30% over that span.
