The Loungewear Trends Are Still Going Strong…But This Is How It’s Evolved
Elevated Loungewear Trends
“Where were you when…the world shut down because of COVID?” It was such a scary and traumatic event, you’ll never forget…much like when the space shuttle, Challenger, exploded, or the planes flew into the twin towers. You never forget. I was in the Bahamas with my sister and the two of us were nervous wrecks. We pretended to enjoy the beautiful paradise-like scenery around us, but we were both riddled with anxiety. COVID changed so many things…including how we dress. Since we stayed mostly at home, we didn’t really need to dress up. Loungewear became a thing. Even top fashion houses embraced loungewear, showing it on the runways.
Fast forward 2 years… and, yay… we are going out and dressing up again, but many of us have a whole new appreciation of loungewear and its function in our lives. We also have so many more beautiful loungewear options to choose from now. COVID sparked an era of elevated, luxurious and beautiful loungewear and I am definitely here for it!
Below, I’m sharing one of my favorite loungewear sets and the top loungewear trends of fall/winter 2022 so that you can look like your most stylish self, even when you’re hanging out or working from home.

SWEATER | PANTS | TEE | MULES
My Favorite Lounge Set
Before we get to the loungewear trends (below), I wanted to share my new go-to loungewear set that I grabbed for fall. I know, I know, it’s hard to imagine that fall is right around the corner, but it IS coming! Peak fall is 4 weeks away here in Telluride, Colorado. This lightweight, yet warm wool and cashmere blend set, is SO soft and chic. It looks and feels very luxurious. (Luxe sets, in high-quality fabrics, are actually one of the big loungewear trends this year too)
The pants are a pull-on style with a stretchy waistband that makes them cozy and couch-friendly. I love the flattering wide-leg silhouette on the pants. Wide legs is another big loungewear trend. The over-sized matching sweater can pair beautifully with jeans as well as these pants. I half-tucked the sweater into the pants and pushed up the sleeves. (If you want a slimmer fit with the sweater, I suggest sizing down one size.)
Comfy Shoes
On my feet, I’m wearing a pair of shearling-lined mules. Shearling anything is majorly on-trend for fall/winter. I am a BIG fan of shearling since we have such cold winters. I also love that these mules have a real sole so you can wear these to grab kids from school, grab the mail or any of those quick, ‘pop-out-of-the-house’ errands.
Just In Case…
If you get hot in cashmere or wool, are dealing with hot flashes, or just want the option to take off the sweater, you can wear a basic white tee underneath. I’m wearing a versatile, lightweight linen tee that you can easily wear alone or under sweaters or jackets.
Loungewear Tip
One thing to consider when you’re shopping for your luxe loungewear…can you wear the pieces out of the house. For example, I’ll wear the sweater above with jeans and sneakers for an easy fall look. And, I’ll also wear the pants with a tee and cardigan or jacket for a comfy, pulled-together look to run errands or even travel in. Each piece can be worn with other things in my wardrobe, providing maximum versatility for your investment.
Now, let’s discuss more of the loungewear trends for fall…

Luxe Sets
There are SO many luxe loungewear sets out there to choose from. But if you’re looking for super luxe sets, go for fabrics like cashmere and wool. You can also wear a sweater with luxe-looking cable knit details or ribbing. And don’t forget, just because I’m saying “sets”, does NOT mean you have to perfectly match. If you have a chic black cashmere sweater and some black joggers, you can pair them together to get the look of a set and accomplish the same goal!
2
Button-Down Sets
This is the perfect example of how sets are becoming more polished and sophisticated. Button-down shirts are inherently more put-together than slouchy sweaters. And, it’s a wardrobe basic every woman already has in their closet, or should already have in their closet! All you have to do is throw on a pair of matching comfy pants and you’re ready to go! Plus, this is a perfect work-from-home look.

Colorful Sets
Many women over 40, shy away from color and prints. I certainly used to, but color is so wonderful! Vibrant colors and prints are also very ‘in’ right now. Please take a moment to watch the Valentino Fall RTW fashion show featuring everything PINK from head-to-toe. If you don’t feel comfortable with bright, bold colors, you can start with something more muted like a dark blue or sage green.

Silky Sets
Silky sets have been “in” for a while, but now we’re seeing them in brighter colors, fun prints, and interesting silhouettes. I’ve even seen silk slip dresses styled with a comfy sweater thrown over them, which I think is a really elevated and chic way to wear this trend without looking like you’re wearing a full-on silk PJ set!
5
Wider Legs
It should come as no surprise that wide-leg silhouettes are in. I’ve been talking about baggier jeans and pants for the past two years, so of course, the trend made its way to loungewear too. There are SO many options out there in different fabrics, lengths, and levels of wideness. Pick a silhouette you feel comfortable in but I’m partial to the pants I’m wearing above…
6
Collars & Half Zips & Hoodies
There are certain loungewear details that are on trend too…like sweaters with hoods, layover collars, and quarter or half zips. I suggest style a cool quarter zip sweater with jeans and booties for a casual, chic outfit any day of the week!
7
Chunky Knits
Chunky and fluffy knits are a BIG trend for fall! Think ribbed, cable knit, mohair, angora, wools, and all of the really heavily textured fabrics you want to just reach out and touch! I’ve always loved fuzzy sweaters and don’t think they’ve ever been out of style. But they just happen to be more on-trend at the moment. Style a textured sweater you already own with a pair of comfy wide-leg pants or joggers for an on-trend loungewear look.

Wildcard: Jumpsuits
I know, I know. Jumpsuits are difficult. Finding a length and fit that works for your body can seem daunting. And then there’s the bathroom situation to deal with. BUT, if you think a matching set is easy…a jumpsuit is even easier! It’s a one-and-done piece you don’t even have to think about. Plus, if you’re lounging at home, you don’t have to worry about the dreaded public bathroom situation anyways! Jumpsuits come in a lot of different fits and fabrics. But if you want to try the loungewear jumpsuit, there are more and more options in comfortable knits with elastic waistbands and wide legs…which sounds like ultimate comfort to me!
