The stylish Swedish capitol showcased their highly anticipated Fashion Week hot on the heels of their Danish neighbours, Copenhagen Fashion Week. A show by the famous Swedish School of Textiles kicked off the event, showing the creations of 30 graduate students at Stadsgårdsterminalen, which also acted as a hub for some of the shows, performances and exhibitions.

Various established brands like J.Lindberg, Louise Xin Couture and Stand Studio presented their latest offerings. Other collections that stood out for us were the uber-romantic floaty ballgowns by Jennifer Blom, the textured pastel knits of Imaskopi as well as Seezona’s knits.

There were trends aplenty. It seems the fun fad for unashamedly bright colours that emerged at Copenhagen Fashion Week continued with the same enthusiasm in Stockholm: brightest fuchsia, vibrant tangerine, emerald green and sunshine yellow popped up in many collections. Leather and vegan leather were spotted every so often and knits came in super saturated colours as well as heavenly pastels.

In a show of solidarity with Ukraine five Ukranian labels Alona Cini, Leko, Limarenko, Pitaya, and Purpure Queen were showcased, highlighting the plight of Ukraine through fashion during the week.

As ever, the street fashion in the capitol was out of this world, and perhaps first and foremost turning our attention to what was on show on the fashion-gritty pavements of Stockholm would be the perfect way to get us properly in the mood for this fashion extravaganza.

STAND STUDIOS

Shiny pouting lips and delectable strawberries printed on T-shirts, Barbie pink mini-skirts and faux python sheath dresses, edible combos of lavender & caramel, tangerine & chartreuse leather (and vegan leather) and a good dose of long pile shaggy fur were just some of the most memorable looks in this fabulously tactile collection that’s decidedly decadent Eighties in its feel. Add a beret and a pair of dangerously pointy pumps (complete with fur finish) to the mix … think Miami, LA, Cindi Lauper and Madonna of that era and you’ll get the vibe. Or simply see our selection below!

LOUISE XIN COUTURE

Louise Xin, a self-taught award-winning designer, was born in China and brought up in Sweden. She’s also the founder of Scandinavia’s very first rental-only non-sale couture brand born out of the need to change customer’s retail habits in the light of sustainability.

Vogue Scandinavia aptly said, “Louise Xin is Changing the World one dress at the time”. And believe us, those dresses are the floatiest of pieces, carefully hand-crafted from layers and layers of the softest tulle, lace and embroidery – Louise Xin Couture truly has the magic touch!

JENNIFER BLOM

This established Swedish couturier (she graduated from Beckman’s College of Design in 2007) is a household name amongst Swedish royalty and often the designer of choice for red carpet events. We adored her flattering, floaty pleated silk gowns in the most inspired shades, from sky blue to fuchsia, peppermint to buttercup yellow. Flattering, easy to wear and terribly glamorous!
