Rebranded Juvaly ~ Taiwanese Skin Care made with Fullerenes

Juvaly is the new name for Taiwanese skincare brand Juva and they sent me their full skincare lineup for review purposes. I have used their Jelly Wash Off Mask and  Brightening Essence before and not only has Juvaly changed their name, but they have repackaged their products too! I am so happy when I get PR from Taiwanese brands ~ I find that TW Beauty seems to work really well with my oily, dehydrated skin and I haven’t really found a Taiwanese brand that I did not enjoy!

Skin Type/Concerns: oily, blemish prone, aging concerns, pores, fine lines/wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation

I received these products complementary to review and was not paid.  All reviews are my own honest opinion and  I never have been asked to write copy for a brand.  This blog post might contain promo codes, affiliate and referral links, which using my links will help generate a small commission that helps support my blog at no extra cost to you.

Juvaly uses at least 2% fullerenes in their skincare products. What are fullerenes? Glad you asked, as I wrote about this ingredient LONG ago at my blog in 2016 ~ Fullerene, or ⚽️carbon buckyballs⚽️, are a patented technology and are microscopic hollow spheres that are stable and will carry active ingredients into your skin. These are nano-particles which are reported to help reduce wrinkles and tone your skin, making it firmer and smoother. Fullerenes act as a free radical sponge, by breaking up the bonds and adding an electron to the free radical molecules. ⁣Juvaly Skincare is 100% free from artificial fragrances, cruelty-free and free from parabens and are registered with the FDA.   They also package their products in eco-friendly, recycled and sustainable materials⁣

Juvaly research team focused on the most common skincare issues: wrinkles, dull and sallow skin, large pores, sagging skin.  All of these issues are exasperated by free radicals, so Juvaly targets these five concerns by using Fullerenes and Snow Fungus,  a natural hydrator and has been used in traditional Asian medicine for centuries.

Brightening Facial Jelly Wash Off Mask is a real treat!  This jelly mask is  really great for oily skin types. This is a soothing, hydrating wash off gel mask containing 13 ingredients: This contains 2% fullerenes  along with antioxidant-rich cucumber helps to regulate the water and oil level of the skin to prevent the appearance of blemishes. Anti-aging, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory ginseng helps stimulate skin, activate the blood flow which increases toning while leaving your skin glowing and radiant.  Kava kava helps speed up wound healing and it is a skin conditioner while slowing the loss of water from your skin⁣

Algae  is an excellent skin conditioning, emollient moisturizer while anti-inflammatory chicory  not only soothes your skin, but helps aid in the production of collagen.  Magnesium gluconate helps treat blemishes and reduce clogged pores, as it helps reduce the production of excess sebum. This product contains no artificial dyes or fragrances. This does have a natural scent to it, a little bit warm and early but it is very faint.

: DI Water, Water-soluble Fullerenes, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Cucumber (Cucumis Sativus) Extract, Ginseng (Panax) Extract, Kava (Piper Methysticum) Root Extract, Algae Extract, Chicory (Cichorium Intybus) Extract, Maltose, Magnesium Gluconate, Hydroxyacetophenone, 1,2-Hexanediol⁣ cosDNA

I love jelly masks and this one is just lovely to use. It has an immediate cooling effect on my skin, helping to calm and soothe and it is hydrating but doesn’t leave my skin dewy or greasy.

Just massage it on for 30 seconds and leave on for 5 minutes, then rinse off.   My skin looks more “fresh” after using this and my pores are much cleaner looking.

Brightening Enhancer is Julavy’s answer to a toner ~ it is in a mist bottle, but it is a toner.  I use this right after I wash my face.  It is a simple formula and there are two outstanding ingredients in here ~ first the fullerenes and then the hydrating, anti-aging hydroxyacetophenone.  This is a synthetic antioxidant and can help combat free radicals while being soothing, as it suppresses the skin irritating COX-2 enzyme.   It also helps boost any preservatives in the skincare product, so a lower amount of the actual preservative is used, so it can prevent allergic reactions.

Ingredients: Water, Butylene Glycol, Water-soluble Fullerene, Hydroxyacetophenone, 1,2-Hexanediol, PVP cosDNA

This comes in a nice sturdy plastic bottle with a spray applicator.  The mist is very fine and watery, so it absorbs quickly into my skin, no greasy or sticky residue.  It feels very refreshing and calming on my skin while really giving it a good dose of hydration.  This has a pH level 5 ~ 5.5, so it is mildly acidic and skin barrier friendly.

Juvaly must have listened to the concerns about their original packaging on the Brightening Essence, as this best seller used to be in individual vials.  There is nothing in the ingredients that requires a “fresh” bottle, so this time, they put it in one bottle with a pump applicator. This is full of great ingredients besides the 2% fullerenes ~ Gluconolactone is a PHA ~ Poly Hydroxy Acids. PHA is a third generation peeling/exfoliating ingredient, like AHA and BHA, but it is less irritating.  It is just as effective as an AHA, but it is gentle and mild, as the molecules in PHA are larger and do not penetrate deeply into the skin.   PHA’s take longer to show results, but if you use a product for about a month or so, you should see some skin tone and texture improvement.   PHA’s also have hydrating and moisturizing benefits that can help strengthen your skin barrier function and they contain anti-oxidant properties, making it a good choice for anti-aging skincare products.  PHA’s also can be used with other products such as retinol and skin lightening hydroquinone.  PHA products can be used on all skin tones as well and help reduce photo-aging.

Dipotassium glycrrhizate is licorice and it reduces flakiness in skin, acts as anti-irritant and anti-inflammatory, helping to soothe skin and reduce redness.  It also is a skin lightener and brightener, preventing hyper-pigmentation.  This also contains the emollient algae, anti-inflammatory chicory and blemish busting magnesium gluconate as well as tremella fuciformis.

Tremella fuciformis,  aka Snow Fungus, is a white gelatinous parasitic fungus that has been used in TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) for centuries, as well as for culinary dishes.   It draws water to the skin, just like hyaluronic acid, helping keep your skin hydrated and moist, plumping up fine lines and wrinkles. It is supposed to be 120% more efficient than HA, as its particles are smaller than hyaluronic acid ~ it penetrates your skin better and more easier.  Snow fungus is a natural organic alternative to hyaluronic acid.  It contains Vitamin D, the sunshine vitamin ~  we need produce it when we get it thru exposure to the sun and also in foods and supplements.  Also, snow fungus is an antioxidant, helping combat and reserve free radical damage,  including lightening of hyper-pigmentation spots. So, this has several skin brightening ingredients that are not your typical ones you might think of ~ such as vitamin C or niacinamide.

Ingredients: Water, Water-soluble Fullerene, Glycerin, Glyceryl Polyacrylate, Piper Methysticum Extract, Gluconolactone, Sodium Benzoate, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizinate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Tremella Fuciformis Sporocarp Extract, Magnesium Gluconate, Algae Extract, Chicory Extract, Maltose, Disodium EDTA cosDNA

I love the pump applicator on this as it works well with the product.  This has a watery-gel like texture that absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving no greasy or oily residue.  As it contained PHA, I did do a pH test on this anti-oxidant, brightening essence and it is between 4 to 4.5.  This is a nice pH level of an acid treatment and despite its lower level, this did not sting my face!   It felt very hydrating and soothing and I would never had guessed its pH level was so low

I never got rid of my hyper-pigmentation, but I felt my skin looked and felt more even toned without dullness, but more of a radiance.  This did not clog my pores, left my skin clear and help speed up skin healing as well, as it does gently exfoliate while aiding in the production of collagen.  This is not an inexpensive product, but I feel it does live up to its claims as a skin brightening product

Brightening Oil Essence is the one Juvaly product that I was a little apprehensive with initially, as I am not a fan of oil products and this had rose extract in it.  However, this fast became a favorite staple in my skincare routine this past spring.  Not only does this have PHA gluconolactone, snow fungus and fullerenes, this contains anti-oxidant, free radical fighter vitamin E to help fight back fine lines and wrinkles. Jojoba oil is both a moisturizing and skin softening ingredient and helps skin cells attract and keep moisturize. It also penetrate your skin easily, aiding skin’s increased flexibility and elasticity.

This also has skin-brightening, anti-inflammatory licorice, moisturizing algae, soothing and calming chicory and blemish busting magnesium< gluconate. The Brightening Oil Essence does contain essential oils of rose geranium and frankincense, so this product does have a stronger scent.

Ingredients: Water, Jojoba (Simmondsia Chinensis) Seed Oil, Fullerenes, Glycerin, Glyceryl Polyacrylate, Piper Methysticum Root Extract, Gluconolactone, Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate) , Sodium Benzoate , Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate,Rose Geraniumis (Pelargonium Graveolens) Flower Oil , Olibanum (Boswellia Carterii Gum) Oil, Rosa Damascena Flower Extract , Hydroxyethylcellulose, Tremella Fuciformis Sporocarp Extract, Magnesium Gluconate, Algae Extract, Chicory Extract (Cichorium intybus), Maltose, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Citrate cosDNA

Juvaly calls this a liquid gold elixir and it is stunning.  This product has a separation of the water soluble ingredients and the oils, so I do need to shake this up to mix up the ingredients.  This has a glass pipette and a few drops of this nourishing oil is all I need for my face.  It has that lovely scent that is a bit herbal, a bit woody.  The essence is not oily, but lightweight and I do apply it over damp skin ~ I find by doing that, the oils absorb better and do not leave my skin looking shiny.

My skin feels so supple and hydrated with this essence and it brings a natural radiance and glow to my skin. I am really looking forward to using this during the colder months.

If I just look at the ingredient list for the Brightening Lotion, I would have thought it was not for me.  Lots of really nourishing ingredients that can be quite heavy on my skin.  This contains shea butter, containing a rich source of concentrated natural vitamins and fatty acids ~ oleic, stearic, palmitic, linolenic ~ and is highly moisturizing and nourishing.  It helps repair your skin, as well as reduce skin inflammation and it also smooths your skin to protect it from drying and it strengthens your skin over time as it helps aid in the collagen production. Sunflower seed oil is a lightweight oil that has a high concentration of vitamin E, which is a powerful anti-oxidant.  Sunflower seed oil is known for its hydrating and moisturizing properties and it contains omaga-6 fatty acids.

Cosmetics-grade mineral oil will not clog pores and it is one of the safest moisturizing ingredients around, which is why it is found in baby oil!  Mineral oil is thicker than most ingredients and it is an occlusive, which is why I normally avoid using it, but it is not pore clogging.    Hydroxyacetophenone, also known as SymSave H, is fairly new on the scene, but it has been proven to be a multi-functional ingredient. It is an anti-oxidant, to help with wrinkles and fine lines by combating and neutralizing free radicals, an anti-inflammatory, helping to reduce irritation, redness while soothing the skin and it helps with boosting preservatives in skincare.

This also has hydrating glycerin and  emollient caprylic/capric triglyceride, with its combination of fatty acids helps to replenish the skin with moisture and also reduce loss of moisture on the skin.

Ingredients: Water, Caprilic/Capric Triglyceride, Butylene Glycol, Water-soluble Fullerene, Glycerin, Glyceryl Polyacrylate, Shea Butter, Helianthus Annuus(Sunflower) Seed Oil, Sodium Acrylates Copolymer, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Phospholipids, Polyglyceryl-10 Stearate, Sodium Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Mineral Oil(Paraffinum Liquidum), Trideceth-6, Hydroxyacetophenone, 1,2-Hexanediol, Disodium EDTA cosDNA

This comes in a tall glass bottle, painted white with a pump applicator.  The lotion was a complete surprise to me in its texture ~ it is a lightweight texture, very creamy, but not heavy at all!  There is no scent to it either and it absorbs very quickly into my skin.

This product has all of the markings of a heavy cream, yet it is so great for oily skin as it doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy or sticky.  Instead, my skin is soft, feels bouncy and my fine lines and wrinkles are plumped up with this lotion.  It plays well  under makeup and over other skincare products.  Can drier skin types use this? Yes!  I feel it is very moisturizing but it isn’t heavy ~ if you have really dry skin, you could layer it twice.  This is such a great lotion for my skin!

That said, my biggest complaint about the Brightening Lotion is the packaging.  It is very beautiful and sleek to look at, but using it in my bathroom, where it is humid already, is a disaster just waiting to happen.. and it did.  The bottle is glass, so of course, this properly slipped out of my hands one morning and shattered on my ceramic bathroom titled floor.  I did go out and purchase another one, as I did like the formula and I did need to write a review.  The other issue is the cap and pump.  At first, I thought this was a twist-off cap as pulling it straight up didn’t get the cap off the first time.   Since I did a twist, I twisted the pump applicator right off the bottle 😦   So, that can lead to contamination very quickly.  Even though I know it is a cap that I need to pull up on, I still sometimes do a twist by habit.
