Few global fashion weeks have the uncanny ability to continually delight like Copenhagen Fashion Week (CPHFW) does. With its highly curated selection of exceptional Scandi brands like stalwarts Ganni, Henrik Vibskov, Stine Goya, Holzweiler, A. Roege Hove and (di)vision that we’ve come to know and love over the years, it’s with huge anticipation and expectation that we await CPHFW twice a year, and it never disappoints! In fact, it’s a guaranteed standout event in the global fashion week calendar.

Between August 9th and 12th, 2022, 35 accomplished brands, including the excellent and forward-thinking work by the talented students at the Royal Danish Academy – a perennial highlight of the proceedings – has given us a Nordic nod as to what we can expect to be wearing come Spring Summer 2023. And this time around all shows were a fully physical activation – back to ‘normal’, hooray! All this alongside premieres, events, talks, celebrations and activations …  all a week jampacked with fashionable action not to be missed. And more menswear on show than ever before.

Arguably more so than any other fashion week the brands on display at CPHFW have an identity and ‘look’ that make them quintessentially Scandinavian: the no-fuss, clean silhouettes, the uncanny ability to reinvent the classics season after season, the practical, tongue-in-cheek take on sportswear and streetwear and of course the inimitable Nordic ability to create the most extraordinary prints and surface patterns, although there seems to have been a definite temporary (we hope!) move this season away from the very prints that have made the Danish fashion so distinctive.

We’ve put the spotlight on a few of our favourite brands to illustrate just how lucky we are to have these forward-thinking and innovative designers to guide us in jazzing up our wardrobes in a creative and climate-responsible manner. Scandi fashion no doubt rocks in more ways than one, and rest assured that each of these fabulous designers is super conscious of the impact of their actions on our planet.

Enjoy our selection, and look out for Part 2 of Copenhagen Fashion Week SS 2023 where we’ll be homing in on the super exciting new TRENDS for next summer.

GANNI

Ganni’s show entitled ‘Joyride’ is a tribute to the joyous city of Copenhagen. Models in cowboy boots paraded double denim ensembles, ruched babydoll dresses with puff sleeves and colour-blocked co-ords. The silhouettes are, as ever, delightfully wearable and showcased the season’s shades of blue, tangerine, neon yellow and coral. And it goes without saying that the obligatory Ganni range wouldn’t be complete without a dash of leopard print!

BAUM & PFERDGARTEN

Known for their love of prints, this SS 2023 collection seems to have taken a different direction and focused more on colour-blocking and saturated shades, to wonderful effect. The trendy kaleidoscope of shades, shapes and looks of the season were all there: coral, poison green, spring green, pastel, pops of bright purple and turquoise. Blue denim, stripes and leather completed the picture. Prints weren’t altogether neglected, we love the leopard renditions in coat and maxi dress forms.

HENRIK VIBSKOV

Graphic, geometric and boldly patterned, Henrik Vibskov’s offering was hands down one of the most striking shows at CPHFW SS 2023. The shades of the season – tangerine, blue and green were represented in the surface patterning and knits in the ensembles. Layering, print on print and flattering, organic shapes featured in most of the pieces. This is a collection of Scandi prints at their very best.

STINE GOYA

From fully transparent and gauzy to silky satin fluidity, from frivolous party dresses to practical cargo-pant co-ords, Stine Goya had us mesmerized. From dreamy floral pastel ‘pyjama’ suits to cutesy Scandi printed dresses and cropped leggings, this collection with its rainbow, lavender, bright yellow, sky blue and bottle green colour spectrum has an eternally cheerful quality to it. It truly makes one jump for joy!

A. ROEGE HOVE

Known for their incredible knitwear, A. Roege Hove wowed with a collection full of avant-garde beauties that included many shapely silhouettes – some fully transparent, others paying homage to the SS 20233 trends of the bodycon look. Colours, again, gave us a nod as to what to expect in our stores come Spring 2023: acid green, lavender, black and white.

HOLZWEILER

Holzweiler’s long, floaty, strappy and ruched dresses, some with bohemian fringing, some transparent, are super contemporary and exotic. The buttercup yellow shades are an ode to the season’s colour trends, as are the lace and macramé belts. Pops of saturated colour in the co-ords juxtaposed the soft pastels beautifully.
