Appliqué is an ornamental needlework where fabric’s pieces or patches of various shapes and patterns are sewn onto a larger piece to form a picture or a pattern, in other words — cutting shapes from textile fabrics and attaching them to the base material.
The term itself originates from the Latin word “applico”, meaning “I apply”, and subsequently adapted by French to “appliquer” meaning “attach”.
