The red carpet is a place to transform — and at Venice Film Festival 2022, attendees have been shapeshifting into all manner of different guises by way of their beauty and sartorial choices. Whether it’s Florence Pugh in her dazzling Valentino gown or Tilda Swinton repping Ukraine with a fluoro-yellow dye job, the devil is in the details.

On September 7, festival regular Penélope Cruz graced the red carpet wearing a chic hairstyle inspired by a fellow screen icon, Audrey Hepburn. There’s a reason Hepburn is so often referenced: her beauty signatures are as timeless as they come. From her bold brows and defined eyes to that micro fringe and her ultra-glamorous way with an updo, her beauty details are both universal in appeal and unmistakably Audrey. 

With her dark brown hair and defined doe-eyes, Cruz could have been mistaken for the gamine Hepburn in Venice this week, at the premiere for En Los Margenes, which translates — fittingly – to On the Fringe. Alongside her plunging, black gown with a sweetheart neckline, she wore her hair in a voluminous chignon, complete with choppy micro-fringe – much like Hepburn’s hairstyle in the classic film Breakfast At Tiffany’s in 1961. Cruz’s radiant skin, smoldering smoky eye makeup, and simple nude lip complete this classic, glamorous look.
