Todd Snyder’s Latest Timex Watch Wants You to Explore the Great Outdoors

Whether it’s a sweatshirt, a linen suit, or the perfect pair of laid-back running shoes, Todd Snyder specializes in the kind of clothing that looks better with every spin through the washer and every scuff on the curb. The designer homed in on exactly that vibe for his latest collaboration with Timex, in the form of a rugged field watch designed to look as stylish—and feel as utilitarian—as a pair of leather mountain boots. “I wanted to create a watch that was reminiscent of vintage field and diving watches,” Snyder says. “A watch that looked like it had been on its share of expeditions through the woods, down some rapids and into the sea.”

As with every piece in the Todd Snyder x Timex canon, this one is designed to pair perfectly with Snyder’s curated collection of classic American menswear. In contrast to his last Timex piece, an ode to the gray flannel suits and free-flowing cocktails of the Mad Men era, the Timex x Todd Snyder Utility Ranger watch made for paddling across glassy lakes or kicking back in front of a campfire in a utility shirt, khakis, and desert boots.

Outfitted in a black 40mm steel case with a muted orange bezel and blaze orange seconds hand, the vintage-inspired timepiece has the right look and the necessary specs to make it an essential for backwoods excursions and an easy addition to your off-duty wardrobe. With 100m of water-resistance, a green NATO-style nylon strap, and Timex’s famous Indiglo night light, it’s built to stand up to the rigors of the trail. Powering this campsite hero, meanwhile, is a workhorse automatic movement with 40 hours of power reserve and—in an upscale finishing touch—a display caseback so you can, ah, watch all those little gears doing their thing.

And like the best outdoor gear (and so many of Todd Snyder’s greatest hits) the more you beat it up, the more seasoned and adventure-ready it’ll look.
