Keith Urban Is an Honorary Balenciaga Guy Now
In the last few years Balenciaga’s artistic director Demna has carefully curated an ongoing dinner party of celebrity brand ambassadors as an essential part of the brand’s populist world-building. In the last few years, his guests—His recent guests have included Kim Kardashian, Ye, Justin Bieber, Lewis Hamilton, Tracee Ellis Ross, Cardi B, Offset, Elliot Page, Han Sohee, Marge Simpson, and Isabelle Huppert. Today in Paris, the French house’s latest couture show welcomed a new crop of personalities, including pop star Dua Lipa, Selling Sunset real estate agent Christine Quinn, and actor Nicole Kidman. But it was Kidman’s husband, the country singer Keith Urban, who became this year’s most unpredictable new Balenciaga ambassador.
Urban, wearing a pair of the label’s snub-nosed, chunky-soled “Rhino” derbys, beamed from the front row while his Oscar-winning wife more or less treated the Balenciaga runway like a movie set. Wearing a silver foil gown, Kidman walked with the steely resolve of someone preemptively getting deep into character for an imperious upcoming HBO role. (While Urban typically performs in paper-thin graphic tees and blue jeans, his formalwear does skew dark and edgy, which puts him in good company here.) Earlier, on her way into the show, Nicole made sure to slip on her Balenciaga alien-shield sunglasses to share a mouth-ajar kiss with her husband in front of gathered paparazzi. This turned out to be a perfect amuse-bouche performance to Demna’s surreal soirée.
