Last Week, The Best Dressed Stars Leaned Towards Extravagant Sensations

F

eminine, jazzy, and irresistible sum up our favorite looks spotted on Black stars last week—both on and off the carpet. We saw South African beauties show out on the blue carpet of the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards (DStvMVCA), Nigerian celebrities slay glamorously at the Glamour Girls movie premiere, and of course, Hollywood’s finest ended the week with a resounding bang at the BET Awards, a.k.a culture’s biggest night. Irrespective of the ensemble of choice, Black women certainly understood the need to render sophistication in varying interpretations, all as a timeless style code.

The looks

It was a whole week of slaying in dashing outfits for actress Tessa Thompson, as she made press rounds and appearances in tasteful back-to-back style coordinations. Our favorite, although hard to choose, was a custom Armani Privé number which the star embodied perfectly. Thompson looked like a futuristic liquid-metal-illusion at the Thor: Love and Thunder movie premiere which held in Los Angeles on June 23.

We want whatever star actress Taraji P. Henson and stylist Jason Rembert were on last night, because “cookie” made a simply sumptuous look almost intoxicating last night. The instinctive move to come correct in an elegant Tom Ford number at the BET Awards was proof that a glam team that understands the assignment is a must-have this season and beyond.

Sometimes, birthdays are for self-expression and a redefinition of oneself. Last week, Real Housewives of Lagos star Chioma Ikokwu celebrated another complete calendar cycle in a bevy of jaw-dropping attires. The golden fiery-themed sculpture of a dress by Nigerian designer Weiz Dhurm Franklyn and knowing pose pivoted the star to goddess level. Clearly, the definition of aging like fine wine.

Check out black women’s most fashionable moments both on and off the red carpet last week…
