6 Iconic Halloween Looks and How to Get Them – Glow Recipe

Whether you love Halloween for the spook of it all or appreciate any excuse to go big with your glam, there’s no arguing that it’s a great time to unleash your creativity with a killer costume — figuratively or literally. And if you’re looking for Halloween costume ideas for 2022, you’re in luck: We’ve come up with ideas that are big on both skin and makeup, making them easy to DIY with a steady hand and step-by-step tips from celebrity makeup artist Tony Tulve. Here, six ideas to choose from.

Sandy or Danny from Grease

Missing those summer nights? We’ve got you covered. Pick your go-to Rydell High character, slip on a leather jacket, and you’re set. Whether you’re opting for John Travolta’s Danny or the late, great Olivia Newton-John’s Sandy, Tulve breaks down how to get each look:

For Sandy:

For Danny:

  • Use Guava Vitamin C Bright-Eye Gel Cream to prep the eye area for makeup.
  • Apply a soft black pencil generously to the water line and smudge out the edges near lash line to give a soft smoke.
  • Clean up the excess with a q-tip and micellar water to help give that lived in look.
  • Work pomade into your hair.

David Bowie

British rocker David Bowie’s alter ego appeared on the cover of his sixth album back in the ‘70s, but Aladdin Sane still lives on with this classic makeup moment. Since it involves a ton of color, the removal process is just as important. Here, Tulve’s tips:

Wednesday Addams

The Addams family teen is finally getting her moment in the spotlight with a new Netflix show. And while her two braids are key to the look, so is her complexion, which is a little bit dead, a little bit translucent. Here, Tulve shares his advice:

  • After skin prep, mix a lighter concealer with Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops to help create a veil of “ghostly pallor.”
  • Sweep a cool-toned violet shadow over the eye and follow the natural shadow of the eye socket. Then, deepen the lash line with a gray eyeliner.
  • Prep lips with Watermelon Glow Lip Pop and tap the same lighter tone concealer over it.
  • Part hair down the center and create two braids.

Renaissance-era Beyoncé

Sure, there are a lot of iconic Beyoncé moments to choose from, from her role as Foxxy Cleopatra in Austin Powers: Goldmember to the Formation video. But the current Beyoncé goes big on the chrome for her new Renaissance album — and since the outfit bares some skin, you don’t want to skip your arms and legs, either. Here’s what Tulve recommends:

Maddy from Euphoria

HBO Max’s Euphoria is a hotbed for new makeup trends, from holographic hues to the chromecore trend. And Maddy Perez’s makeup in the season two premiere is especially on point, accented with a ’90s-era claw headband and big hoops. Here’s what Tulve advises:

  • Apply generous layers of Watermelon Glow Lip Pop to create the perfect rosy lip before adding nude liner and clear gloss
  • Mix Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops in with your foundation and liquid blush to help elevate the no-makeup makeup look and to create the perfect canvas.
  • Use a black liquid eyeliner to line the eyes along both the upper and lower lash lines, extending it straight out from the outer corner of the eye.
  • Apply silver eyeshadow to the lids, then tap on a small dab of Dew Drops onto the center with your finger.
  • Pro tip: If you’re adding rhinestones, blot the area first so the gems have a dry surface to stick too.
